Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: "O Vidūra! Perform all the royal funeral rites for Pāṇḍu, that lion among kings, and also specially for Mādrī.
धृतराष्ट्र ने कहा: "हे विदुर! राजाओं में सिंह पांडु के लिए सभी शाही अंतिम संस्कार करें, और विशेष रूप से माद्री के लिए भी।
For the sake of Pāṇḍu and Mādrī, give away animals, garments, jewels and all kinds of riches to any that ask for them and as muc as they want.
पाण्डु और माद्री के निमित्त पशु, वस्त्र, आभूषण और सभी प्रकार की धन-संपत्ति जो कोई मांगे उसे दे दो और जितना वह चाहे उतना दे दो।

यथा च कुन्ती सत्कारं कुर्यान्माद्र्यास्तथा कुरु यथा न वायुर्नादित्यः पश्येतां तां सुसंवृताम्
Perform her rites the way Kuntī would. Let her body be covered well, so that the sun and the wind cannot see it.
कुंती जैसे ही उसका संस्कार करेगी वैसे ही उसका पालन करना। उसके शरीर को अच्छी तरह से ढका रहने दें, ताकि सूरज और हवा उसे न देख सकें।

न शोच्यः पाण्डुरनघः प्रशस्यः स नराधिपः यस्य पञ्च सुता वीरा जाताः सुरसुतोपमाः
Let there be no lamentations for the unblemished Pāṇḍu. He was a king to be praised. And five brave sons have been born to him, like the sons of the gods."
निष्कलंक पाण्डु के लिए कोई शोक न हो। वह प्रशंसनीय राजा था। और उससे देवताओं के पुत्रों के समान पाँच वीर पुत्र उत्पन्न हुए हैं।"
Vaiśampāyana said: O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Vidūra, with Bhīṣma, did as he had been asked. He performed Pāṇḍu's funeral rites in an extremely pure spot.
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: हे भरत वंश के वंशज! भीष्म के साथ विदुर ने वैसा ही किया जैसा उनसे कहा गया था। उन्होंने पांडु का अंतिम संस्कार अत्यंत शुद्ध स्थान पर किया।
Without any waste of time, the royal priests left the city, carrying with them a fragrant and flaming fire for Pāṇḍu.
बिना समय बर्बाद किए, राज पुरोहित अपने साथ पांडु के लिए सुगंधित और धधकती आग लेकर शहर से बाहर चले गए।
He was laid on a bier and covered with the best of scents and garlands and covered from all sides with cloth.
उन्हें अर्थी पर लिटाया गया और उत्तम सुगंधियों तथा पुष्पमालाओं से ढक दिया गया तथा चारों ओर से वस्त्रों से ढक दिया गया।
This bier was also adorned with garlands, garments and great riches. Advisers, relatives and friends arrived.
यह अर्थी भी पुष्पमालाओं, वस्त्रों तथा अपार धन-धान्य से सुशोभित थी। सलाहकार, रिश्तेदार और दोस्त पहुंचे।
The lion among men was placed on a supremely decorated hearse, to be drawn by men. With the well-covered Mādrī, the hearse was then pulled by men.
मनुष्यों के बीच सिंह को पुरुषों द्वारा खींचे जाने के लिए एक अत्यंत सुशोभित शव वाहन पर रखा गया था। अच्छी तरह से ढकी हुई माद्री के साथ, शव वाहन को पुरुषों द्वारा खींचा जाता था।

A white umbrella was held above the hearse and whisks made of yak tails were waved. With every musical instrument being played, it was a majestic scene.
शव वाहन के ऊपर एक सफेद छाता रखा हुआ था और याक की पूँछ से बनी मूंछें लहराई जा रही थीं। हर संगीत वाद्ययंत्र बजने के साथ, यह एक राजसी दृश्य था।
At the time of Pāṇḍu's funeral ceremony, hundreds of men distributed jewels among the crowd.
पांडु के अंतिम संस्कार समारोह के समय, सैकड़ों लोगों ने भीड़ के बीच गहने बांटे।

Large white and pale umbrellas and beautiful garments were brought for the Kaurava.
कौरवों के लिए बड़े-बड़े सफेद और पीले छत्र और सुन्दर वस्त्र लाये गये।
The sacrificial priests wore white and poured offerings into the blazing and strong fire that went ahead.
बलि देने वाले पुजारियों ने सफ़ेद वस्त्र पहने और आगे बढ़ती हुई धधकती और तेज़ आग में आहुतियाँ डालीं।
Thousands of Brāhmana-s, Kṣatriya-s, Vaiśya-s and Śūdra-s followed the king, lamenting in grief:
हजारों ब्राह्मण, क्षत्रिय, वैश्य और शूद्र दुख में विलाप करते हुए राजा के पीछे चले गए:
"O king! O protector! Where are you going, leaving us unprotected and immersing us in eternal grief?"
"हे राजा! हे रक्षक! आप हमें असुरक्षित छोड़कर अनन्त दुःख में डुबाकर कहाँ जा रहे हैं?"
Bhīṣma, Vidūra and Pāṇḍu's sons wept. At last they came to a beautiful, sacred and wooded region on the banks of the Gāṅga.
भीष्म, विदुर और पाण्डु के पुत्र रोने लगे। आख़िरकार वे गंगा के तट पर एक सुंदर, पवित्र और जंगली क्षेत्र में आये।
On the plain, Pāṇḍu's hearse, truthful lion among men whose deeds were untainted, and that of his wife were laid down.
मैदान पर, पांडु की अरथी, उन मनुष्यों में से सच्चा सिंह, जिनके कर्म बेदाग थे, और उनकी पत्नी को नीचे रखा गया था।
The bodies were then scented with all kinds of perfumes, sanctified with pure fragrances, consecrated with the best of oils and bathed. Water was sprinkled from a hundred golden pots.
फिर शवों को सभी प्रकार के इत्रों से सुवासित किया गया, शुद्ध सुगंधों से पवित्र किया गया, सर्वोत्तम तेलों से पवित्र किया गया और स्नान कराया गया। सौ स्वर्ण कलशों से जल छिड़का गया।

चन्दनेन च मुख्येन शुक्लेन समलेपयन् कालागुरुविमिश्रेण तथा तुङ्गरसेन च
White sandalwood paste was smeared, mixed with black aloe and the juice of coconuts.
सफेद चंदन का लेप किया गया, उसमें काला घृत और नारियल का रस मिलाया गया।
They were then draped in white cotton garments. Dressed in these garments, that bull among men, tiger among men, seemed to be alive, as if sleeping on an expensive bed.
फिर उन्हें सफेद सूती वस्त्र पहनाए गए। इन वस्त्रों से सुसज्जित होकर मनुष्यों में वह बैल, मनुष्यों में बाघ सजीव प्रतीत हो रहा था, मानो किसी महँगे बिस्तर पर सो रहा हो।
When the other funeral rites were over, the sacrifical priests gave their consent. The ornamented bodies of the king and Mādrī were covered in ghee.
जब अन्य अंत्येष्टि संस्कार समाप्त हो गए, तो बलि पुरोहितों ने अपनी सहमति दे दी। राजा और माद्री के अलंकृत शरीर घी से सने हुए थे।
Fragrances like sandalwood, tuṅgā, padmaka and many other scents were applied and a fire was lit.
चंदन, तुंगा, पद्मक और कई अन्य सुगंधियां लगाई गईं और आग जलाई गई।

ततस्तयोः शरीरे ते दृष्ट्वा मोहवशं गता हाहा पुत्रेति कौसल्या पपात सहसा भुवि
On seeing the two bodies in flames, Kausalyā lamented in her son's name and fell down on the ground, unconscious.
दोनों शवों को जलती हुई देखकर कौशल्या ने अपने पुत्र के नाम पर विलाप किया और बेहोश होकर जमीन पर गिर पड़ीं।
TSeeing her fall down in this way, the citizens of the town and the country also wept in grief, out of the affection they bore for the king.
उसे इस प्रकार गिरते देख नगर और देश के नागरिक भी राजा के प्रति स्नेह के कारण शोक में रोने लगे।
Along with men, all the other beings also cried out, even those of inferior births.
मनुष्यों के साथ-साथ अन्य सभी प्राणी भी रोये, यहाँ तक कि निम्न कुल के प्राणी भी।
Śāntanu's son Bhīṣma wept in great sorrow, as did the immensely wise Vidūra. All the other Kuru-s were also extremely miserable and unhappy.
शांतनु के पुत्र भीष्म अत्यंत दुःख में रोये, अत्यंत बुद्धिमान विदुर भी। अन्य सभी कुरु भी अत्यंत दुखी और दुःखी थे।

ततो भीष्मोऽथ विदुरो राजा च सह बन्धुभिः उदकं चक्रिरे तस्य सर्वाश्च कुरुयोषितः
Then Bhīṣma, Vidūra, the king, the relatives and the women of the Kuru lineage offered the water.
तब भीष्म, विदुर, राजा, रिश्तेदारों और कुरु वंश की महिलाओं ने जल अर्पित किया।
O king! When the water ceremony was over, all the ordinary people sorrowed and consoled the Pāṇḍava-s, who were overcome with grief.
हे राजा! जब जल अनुष्ठान समाप्त हो गया, तो सभी सामान्य लोगों ने दुःख व्यक्त किया और पांडवों को सांत्वना दी, जो शोक से उबर गए थे।
O king! With their relatives, the Pāṇḍava-s slept on the ground. The Brāhmana-s and the citizens also slept on the ground.
हे राजा! पांडव अपने रिश्तेदारों के साथ जमीन पर सोये। ब्राह्मण और नागरिक भी भूमि पर सोते थे।
The Pāṇḍava-s and the city, young and old, grieved for twelve nights, unhappy and miserable.
पाण्डव और नगरवासी, युवा और वृद्ध, दुखी और दुःखी होकर बारह रात तक शोक मनाते रहे।
